Let’s start with the weird disease sounding flower, Clematis

Clematis fever is quite catching… as you can tell by the variety blooming in my garden. Please, don’t ask me their names because their tags are lost!

Let’s move onto the lovely Columbine — again lots sprang up this year. They self-seed and spread through the garden, but I do love their delicate blossums.  Some are upright flowers and some hang their heads down. And yes, they remain nameless… Just another ‘C’ word...

Not a perennial in the yard (although I do keep a couple indoors as houseplants).

Coleus:

GUG actually had me appreciate coleus again.  He always seems to have them growing in his garden!

Then comes the lovely and delicate Centaurea:

I love these.  Some varieties do have a scent which is a light, sweet fragrance.  It’s one of the earlier spring blooms.  The blue is very common, but my favorite remains ‘Amethyst on Snow’

And then onto the very weird.  Cuphea.  Cuphea is a strange sounding name, and the flowers are mostly small, but beauty really emerges close up.

One I wintered over inside… just starting to bloom.  Bees adore this one.

Mexican heather… a lovely plant that I’ve grown for decades in the garden as an annual.  I never realized it was a cuphea!

Some cuphea have ears...

some are smoking hot (cigar or firecracker cuphea)  This one readily self-seeds and sprouts in every pot a seed finds itself.  I also have it self-seeding in spots in the ground.

Cat

Temperatures have been fairly perfect this Spring.  A little coolish (my tomatos are not that happy) but temps that are perfect for perennials to start budding and blooming and for annuals to settle into the ground getting ready for summer to bloom.  Friday was the first day I actually had to water, things were actually wilting!  Thursday’s temps were in the mid-80s.  It’s been doing a lot of “moistening” of late, which means leaves get wet from rain, but nothing really hits the ground to water anything!
